Walt WHITMAN VIKINGS FOOTBALL  Fundraising Letter 2009

The Whitman High School Football team is excited to begin its 2009 season. Our goal is to reach the post season this year and bring home the first State Championship in school history. We are asking for your help in raising funds to support our program.

This year, more than 100 student/athletes will participate in the Whitman Football program. The cost of outfitting an entire football team of this size is staggering. It is a never-ending battle to maintain uniforms and update the protective equipment that keeps our players safe. In addition, beginning this year, the National Federation of High Schools implemented a new rule stating that the primary color of all uniforms for away games must be white. This rule made it necessary for us to order new uniforms for the Football program at a total cost of nearly $16,000.

This expense comes at a time when Montgomery County Public Schools has cut athletic budgets in half, so players and parents must raise the necessary funds. While we know this is a difficult time for all, we need your help. Our goal is to raise at least $10,000 to help offset the total cost of the uniforms and ensure that the Football budget is not completely depleted for this year and future years.

Football is more than simply an extracurricular activity; it can be a life-changing event. The mission of the Walt Whitman Football program is:

         To instill in each player the values of integrity, loyalty, perseverance, and hard work;

         To help each player achieve academic success;

         To maximize the development of each player's athletic ability;

         To teach each player how to handle adversity with poise and success with humility;

         To create an environment of respect and trust among players and coaches; and

         To prepare each player to be successful both on the football field and in life beyond football.

We hope that you will make a tax-deductible donation of any amount to support our team. Thank you for your consideration.
